@JDart1776 The storm itself did not cross the Atlantic. But as fuel is traded on a worldwide market, a disaster anywhere in the world is immediately transformed into pain at the pump.

@kiendl: Katrina went THAT far? Holy crapola..............Katrina was a really powerful storm, yeah, but I never knew that it managed to cross the Atlantic intact. =O

Hurricane Katrina was quite an experience over here in Germany too because it produced quite a price hike for gasoline. Never before had a hurricane on the other side of the Atlantic produced such an immediate effect on everybody. Now that was a wake-up call that fossil fuels and the climate are actually a global issue.
