I dare say that black stations are just as racist as any white station then as now - nothing seems to have changed somehow. I was 11 or 12 years old when I first heard Gary US Bonds and I was dancing with a girl in a poodle skirt !!! This was an all white school in Utah. I knew that a lot of our popular music was by black artists and I didn't care ... I am not prejudiced. In England the prejudice is class prejudice and kids from Liverpool experienced it. Accent in language was the tip-off.

That film is MEMPHIS TN not New Orleans

I got news for Gary US Bonds, the radio stations are back to that white/ black format.
Although his music wouldn't make it on the black stations now.

Gary is from Norfolk, VA. I remember one Easter he hung my hat up on a pole and my mom went to his house and he had to apologize. My where has the years gone. The last time I saw him was in New Jersey perfoming at this hotel. He was so fine as a young man.

Gary says the public didn't know he was black until 1962. I don´t know about that...I saw him doing "Quarter to Three" on "Bandstand" in mid-1961 and he sure didn't look white to me! That song was such a smash that the kids in the Bandstand audience insisted that he sing it twice! I never saw that happen before, the guy was a sensation.
