@neil200936 the laura character doesn't understand that the "gift" is Jesus. She is more concerned with the physical gift that she has and the amount of it or the size of it, that she can't see past it to see the giver. Jesus gave her a personal gift, that's pretty cool. Hope that helps.

How is it possible to love a god who will have me horribly tortured for eternity if I don't? How is any "being" capable of such sadism and cruelty worthy of love?

I'm an atheist but if a being such as this actually existed, I could not manage (even if I tried) anything but extreme revulsion, contempt and hatred for such a monster.

Are you even allowed to ask? I've asked for 9 years and still have no answer, which has lead me to conclude there's no answer period.

It doesn't really parallel w/ 'Why do you let some people die the normal way and others to die by violence?'

But only someone whose relative was murdered will even think it matters.

But it's not really a gift to take someone in your life away. I just wonder about it all the time, b/c my daughter's dad died in Tower 1 at the World Trade Center.
