A very basic standalone sound sequencer for the Vectrex.

This currently features an eight step sequencer, choice of sequence length (between one and eight steps), sequence speed and a four stage, four bit volume envelope generator.

The potentiometers control all of these features as well as the pitches of the individual steps.

  • could they have made such music IN GAME on this system??

  • I am not sure. I don't believe so. It might depend on how complex the game is (?)

  • I think this beats the nintendo, in my preference of sound clips. a lot of people are more comfortable, more familliar with the nintendo digidrips, but this is the original, this is inherent. this sounds transcend from before touch tone fax to today. Probably not getting my point across, but Vectrex yeeea.

  • i think i get what you mean. cheers.

  • This is just awesome, I just bought myself a Vectrex and I'm into DIY music hardware so this is right up my alley! Any chance you are going to release some schematics?

  • what was the game?

  • I believe the sound chip (PSG, Programmable Sound Generator) is an General Instrument AY-3-8912. You could make a stand alone "synth" with one instead of hacking the game system. The Gen inst. AY-3-8910 was used extensively in arcade games of the early-mid 80s. Those do a little more than the 8912. There was a mid 80s arcade game that used an actual 6 voice analog synth (made by Sequential) for its sound generation. Cool huh?

  • How much do you want for it?

  • I actually have a Vectrex for sale, if annyone is interrested... I don't have any game exept for the built-in game; Mine Storm...

  • nice im getting a vectrex tuesday

  • they would need a pretty big cartridge for that but it would so be worth it! I love the sounds you've managed to pull from that thing.

  • awesome!
