Occupy UC Davis Police Violence

This was my perspective on the side opposite the riot police. The video starts right after the pepper spray was used and includes the statement giving them time and ordering them away.

FUCK THE POLICE! FUCK THE GOVERMENT! We are no longer a democracy and haven't been for quite some time. Give us back our democracy!

Brilliant use of the people's mike! This confrontation could have gone waaay out of control and it was only because of the level-headed, nonviolent response of student Occupiers that safety was maintained. I want to know why most people have only seen the active pepper spraying incident and not this. Thank you for your actions and thank you for sharing this video.

I'm proud of you, Tom. Heck of a vantage point you had. I hope you've been drinking lots of herbal tea this last week. Even though this event quickly evolved into a meme, the meme stems from people's outrage at the nonchalance of Pike's spraying y'all. Of course I threw my hat into the hailstorm and had some fun by making a "Pepper Spray: Officer Pike Goes Gaga" music video because, as Vonnegut says, laughter is easier to clean than tears. Fight on!

Your courage to retain your humanity in this situation, and not stoop to the same level that the campus police did inspires me. That situation could have gone even more badly wrong without your quick thinking and ability to articulate something the crowd could get on board with.
