@amarkanders777 that reg was passed in 1995...I found this out while doing a model railroad layout...it was stated in a book I have and that they were removed from all rail service on ALL class 1 railroad cars some time during the late summer

@TheMicksterdee No, the inspector is given authority from the dispatcher, usuallt it's called "track & time," it simple gives the inspector their limits of authority. Under track and time you can pass red signals without stopping. It allows the inspector to follow a train, but he has to have a briefing with the train's crew to let them know not to back up because he'll be right behind them.

@amarkanders777 The journals can still burn out though

@vettelover2009 The car is jacked up and a new axle+wheelset is put in

stainted: ALL cars on ALL Class I RRs are now Roller Bearing... No More Hot Boxes (they were axles on brass bearings). the 'Box' was a container that held lube; GONE.

Dang foamers. We engineers can't stand it.
-
Nice, like the point of view very much... I hope that wasn't the engineer! lol Everyone wants to be in the movie without buying a ticket........
-
@Aaronlamb1 oh...didn't know that...so how do they set them up if its just a wheel that goes bad, but no journal box?
-
@vettelover2009 Not all cars have journal boxes. alot of times you just have a wheel that goes bad.
-
@Aaronlamb1 I thought hot box referred to the journal box overheating?
I'm pretty sure the engineer slept with the track inspector's wife. The inspector is trailing the this guy like flies on stink lol
