Jean Shepard wrote his story of Christmas based on his home in Hammond Indiana...and the South Shore CVB has acquired the actual Macey's display from New York and brought it back to his home town on the 25th anniversary of A Christmas Story.
We have 4 of the 6 scenes featured here...if you want to see more, you need to stop by Hammond and check it out for yourself.
@AYearAtTheWheel the movie was based on the short stories & semi-fictional anecdotes of author Jean Shepherd, including material from his books "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash", & "Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories". People from Hammond Indiana are proud to claim Jean Shepherd as their own & even have a community center named after him. Hammond is my home town (altho I don't live there now) I never refer to Shepherd as co-author of "A Christmas Story".

Only in Hammond would they call Jean Shepherd the CO-AUTHOR of 'A Christmas Story'! What is wrong with you people?
