  • Our family was stationed here sometime around 1962 to 1964, don't remember exactly. My father was US Air Force (Bethel Hendrix). I have very fond memories, though not many. I was very young at the time. We came here from Okinawa where I was born (or was it San Angelo?) My dad was in military intelligence of some sort (Morse Code, 202). Maybe someday I can visit.

  • Thanks. I have just started uploading what I have. This morning I uploaded the movie theater and the NCO Club videos and this evening I'll be uploading the antenna field and base beach areas as well as the main gate area. Hopefully some of these will jog your memory.

  • OK Its closed down now. I hear so many motorcycles and trucks, and on other videos of the base jack hammering, what is the base becoming??

  • i am happy that you have nice memories from my place harris i really do...but i want you to know that we never liked foreign militar stations in our country and we will never do.(i like your videos).

  • This almost made me cry - 26 years later, and IAS still holds a huge hunk of my best life memories, both the place and the people. GH, 81-82, Baker Flight.

  • Thanks for the memories and the update on the IAS. I was there 1977-1979. Lived off base in Kokini Hani. So strange to see the ghost town that remains. I also appreciate the shots of the compound. My wife was a 208 (Russian). I washed out of DLI and was relegated to base supply. She worked there two years but even with my security clearance I never set foot in the compound. Now I can finally say I've seen her duty station. Thanks for the videos and pics.

  • You took the words right out of my mouth...My father was stationed there between 1962-64..some of my fonest memories are of Crete...we lived off base for the first six months, and then we moved into the double trailers by the PX...we were the last trailer. I spoke Greek so well, I went on a "Goodwill Tour" of the island. I was representing the Air Base. (Got car sick...too many hills..and I could barely see over the seat of those big Air Force sedans).
