Jim Croce was a great talent in his own right; I recall reading an interview with him in Rolling Stone entitled "All I Ever Wanted to be Was Gordon Lightfoot"...and no, this isn't a joke, he idolized Gordon!!!

As much as I love Gordon Lightfoot I hate this version of a great song. He is off key, the tempo is off, and truth be known, he was probably a little on the tanked side. By 79, when this was recorded, he was well on his way to a bad drinking problem. Watch the 1974 Midnight Special version and see how this song is suppose to sound.
