I have loved Tony Martin's voice through the years. I just watched Ziegfield Girl on TMC again and enjoyed seeing him and hearing him sing.

Ah Tony...... Christmas day he will be 98. I knew him in the late 50's and early 60's. My mother lived across the street from he and Cyd on Wilshire Blvd. until her death 4 years ago. He was an impeccable dresser and gentleman. That word like the examples have all but ceased to exist in our present society. He was wonderful in Ziegfeld Girl.... it was a stretch of imagination that Gorgeous Hedy Lamarr left him to return to her not so interesting husband :-) Thank you for this.

@SteelStringDiva And Autumn Leaves is actually an original French song Les Feuilles Mortes --- literally translated "the dead leaves" it is a beautiful melody and the French lyrics are very different meaning.

It's funny...I keep learning all these Jazz songs on guitar and never know that there are also lyrics to everyone of the....song like this one and Autum Leaves, Blue Bossa, The Girl From Impanema, etc. Music is the greatest gift mankind has ever come up with....and being about to make it...no matter the level....is the greatest joy of all....or at least in the top 5!

He did sing this song sooo beautifully, but, listen to Frank Sinatra's version. Very good as well.

@BingandNelsonFan can you count me in? :) it's because of my dad that I learned to appreciate these songs. sometimes I listen to songs from the 1930s to the 1970s more than I listen to the songs of my generation! :)

I love the control he has on the last couple of phrases.

Oh, WOW! This song . . . it takes me back to my childhood! Isn't he brilliant. No one else can do this song like Tony Martin. Thanks for posting!

Absolutely. I agree, no one else can sing it like him, and it does take me back to my childhood too! You and I have a lot in common --- it's almost like we're twins! ;)

@Petroskeyful Great! We love to "meet" others who enjoy this type of music (seproductionsyt is really my twin, actually!). We're really keen on the 1930s and 1940s music, to name a few: Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Nelson Eddy, Deanna Durbin, Tony Martin, Hoagy Carmichael, Dennis Morgan, Doris Day, Ella Fitzgerald . . . the list goes on and on! :)
