The Ridiculous and Absurd Rush Limbaugh

Limbaugh created an army of straw men to attack Elizabeth Warren for her comments about nobody getting rich in America without help. In a nutshell, she said that nobody built a factory without roads, an educated work force and other public services.

The caller told Limbaugh that Warren was right as far as she went, but she missed the other half of the story which is that very few people get rich in America without capitalizing other people's labor. In other words, they pay a ditch-digger (or widget maker) $10 to dig a ditch (or make a widget) they sell for $20. Put another way, the rich often get that way by paying people less than they are worth. Which is fine - that's capitalism... But, the caller continued, why does Rush call it class warfare when we ask the capitalists that profit off others' labor to pay a bit more, but he doesn't say a word about class warfare when those same workers that have paid into social security and medicare for all of their lives - and depend on it for a secure retirement - have their benefits cut?

The caller mentioned that no less a man than Abraham Lincoln pointed out that all capital comes from labor. Rush flat lied to his audience, telling them that Lincoln was speaking of slavery. The truth is that Lincoln was speaking of corporate personhood and allowing capital to have a voice equal to that of the people in the American government. Definitely worth a read for its prescience.
