NORTH TRURO Clear skies, brisk winds and cold temperatures greeted approximately 50 Barnstable County firefighters attending the second annual Barnstable County Wildfire Training and Drill held on Saturday, March 27 at the Highlands Center at Cape Cod National Seashore in North Truro.

Co-sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) Bureau of Forest Fire Control and the Cape Cod National Seashore, this years exercise was designed to give firefighters a basic understanding of fighting fires in the wildland-urban interface -- the area where structures and other human development meet or intermingle with undeveloped wildland. Crews from Barnstable, Brewster, Eastham, Mashpee, Orleans, Truro, Wellfleet, West Barnstable, Yarmouth, and The Nature Conservancy attended the training.
