  • Great song! but i like ol' merle's version a lot better.

  • @vargas1700 Thank you. I like Merle's version better too, but mostly I'd like to have Ol Merles money instead.

  • Good thing I never walked on Ali's fightin' side? Okay....a matter of opinion.

But be advised, I served in the United States Marine Corps from 1979-1986. I was in Beruit in Sept. of 1983 and I hold a Brown Belt in Marine Corps Martial Arts.

    I served.....did you?

  • Yes I served in Vietnam in 1967 in the Army. Thank you for your service.

    Ron

  • Oh, I see I must have offended some Liberals with my comment about Ali.

    Well.....too f***ing bad.

  • I agree 100%

  • Thank you for your service! I'm very saddened that you probably didn't receive the great welcome home that you deserved during the Vietnam War era. If nobody told you then, I'll tell you now 40 years later, welcome back!

  • Ron - You are still the best!! God bless and much love from Spain.

  • @MAHARDWAY ....oo-RAH

  • @MultiBaldEagle Por nada & an early Happy Birthday to you my friend ...I believe this 10 November is 235 years - affirmative ? It never hurts to have another certifiable BAD ASS & one of Uncle Sam's Misunderstood Children on my list of friends . I myself have never served ...got preoccupied w/ nookie , beer & weed ( as a youngster ) . Now that I'm older I regret that . I do , however , do lunch for all the veterans @ my place of employ every 11 November ...consider yourself invited - JKM

  • @MAHARDWAY ....oo-RAH....thank you, sir.

  • @MultiBaldEagle " Ali " was and is a mercenary / paid professional fighter ... You , Sir , are a warrior . YOU have my utmost respect where as Mr. Clay does not . You made a decision to protect those who could not defend themselves for duty , honor & country . Mr. Clay made the same decision ONLY to line his own pockets . Seems to me he has reaped what he has sowed ..... Thank you for your service ! Mr. Clay ONLY fought if it was to benefit himself personally . SEMPER FIDELIS ! & may god bless

  • Nice job on the vocals. Reminds me of David Allen Coe vocally. :)

  • great vid--no one offended here

  • ...i like this version of Merle's fighting side of me! Ive read some of the comments that you may have served in Vietnam. If thats true, then I want to thank you for your sacrifice for this country, our constitution, and our individual liberties! God Bless! And i hope some of you youtubers will also enjoy my version of Merle's patriotic song.

  • Thanks to Merle Haggard for speaking out against the Iraq war and supporting the Dixie Chicks' right to do the same.

"Suddenly it's over, the war is finally done/Soldiers in the desert

sand still clinging to a gun/No one is the winner and everyone must

    lose/Suddenly the war's over, that's the news."

  • Thank you for making an exellent version of an exellent patriotic song that has a seeper massage than ''just a song''.
