More than four thousand homeless families are living in the Baghdad district, Luanda, capital of Angola. Hundreds of others have seen their homes torn down by troops of the provincial government in Lubango, Huíla, with no time to find other places to live. Young people living in the neighborhood of Compão, in Lobito, Benguela, are afraid of losing their homes. The documentary "Don't tear down my house" portrays stories of Angolans who, from one minute to the next, saw their houses torn down. Also destroyed were their dreams, jobs, their dignity. So were schools, health clinics, food stands. Those displaced were housed in tents, with no infrastructure whatsoever.

Produced by the journalist brigade of the Omunga Association, an Angolan NGO with headquarters in the city of Lobito, in partnership with the ACC, "Don't tear down my house" is part of a campaign of the civil society of Angola to denounce violations of and advocate for the right to housing. Housing is a fundamental human right, which is the foundation for the exercise of several other rights, such as the right to family, the right to food and water, the right to the highest possible standard of physical and mental health, among others.

"Don't tear down my house" brings to light human rights violations, which show that Angola is far from achieving the Millennium Objectives laid down by the UN. It also shows activists struggles to avoid these forced evictions, starting with the signing of the Benguela Declaration, August 2009, to the peaceful "Don't tear down my house" rally, held in April of the following year in the city of Benguela.

The message is clear. Now it is up to the government. "Don't tear down my house".
