testing out the wood gas stove I built earlier. overall took about 18 minutes for the fire to get strong, then 12 minutes to boil 2 cups of water. so, far less efficient than the alcohol stove (cottle stove) and smokier. I need to make some more improvements.

  • Ive done some experimenting with pellets as a fuel source, but didnt have much luck. If pack weight and ease of use is an issue for you, Id recommend an alcohol stove. Although you would still need to bring fuel with you, at least the stove its self, weighs next to nothing and wont leave soot all over your gear. Thanks for the video.

  • I'd have to agree, the alcohol stoves are hard to surpass. Though I'm intrigued by the Wood Gas Stove. Just noticed that World Stoves has a design on their website - I need to give that a try. Looks like they use a paint can for he outside - that may help.
