Hard to say...but you probably need to check on your motor before you go to a track. Most are very specific on their motor limits. We ran brushless novak 13.5 in our T4's.

whats a good motor and ESC for this truck?

Check with your local track and see what is legal and what they are running. We chose Novak 13.5 Brushless and matching ESC. We did the "sport" version to save $. We are not going to win races at this point. No sense spending big bucks.

Faster yes, better, why?

I agree! I do miss the on-site hobby shop and Mike's great advice for newbies.

Its really pretty simple. Start out with the clear body, and use a small paint brush to make the white "lighting" first. The hit it a little from behind with white or a light color to give it some haze. Then, squirt some paint on a toothbrush and pull it back with your thumb to get it to spray on the body. Then, paint with the paint of your choice. I use Faskolor paints and an airbrush.
