This is one of my earliest TV memories. I saw it all the time when I was four. That was 1987. So to answer your question, it ran in late '87 and probably into early '88.
It's exactly the way I remembered it, too!
That narrator at the end sounds a lot like Vincent Price. It's either him or someone deliberately imitating him.
