well, Smith probably possessed the strongest chops of the three but perhaps his style and overall temperament was not appropriate for Sting's material of that time. He was in and out so fast. Ceccarelli was quite impressive for learning the extensive set so quickly while being tasked with on-the-job training, and his playing only got better as the tour progressed. Lewis created a lot of space for Cinelu though he was a bit nondescript in his playing. I'd have to pick Ceccarelli.
Great video. Jean Paul Ceccarelli on drums. There aren't many clips with him drumming with Sting in 88, most from this tour are with either Marvin Smitty Smith or J.T. Lewis. Thanks for sharing this.
when will sting finally get married to branford marsalis? sting takes him on every single project from his first solo album "Blue Turtles" til todays "Symphonicities"-Shows. That must be more than friendship, and I think that can't be only becaus branford is a great sax player..
Hey Thanks for posting this video. I was at that concert, and still have my ticket... Brings back very good memories being so close to Sting but at the same time we got crushed so bad he actually stopped the show to ask for people to back up because people were being crushed at the front ...that was me and my girlfriend (her first concert ever). Didn't expect that at a Sting concert because I've been to a lot of them at the very front and never happened before nor after...

great to find this video, great job. I caught this tour the same month - February '88 at Nassau Coliseum. OUTSTANDING NIGHT and the band cooked.
