  • @LoveEuropeHateTheEU I didn't say he is an utter Frankfurt School disciple. Just that he is too 'nice' in the face of some attacks leveled on him by the media.

  • @leostomicek Excuse me, but a man who invited Geert Wilders to the UK is not exactly PC...

  • I've already explained.

The system we had before was that each of the nation states took turns to take 6 months to host the presidency and it was incredibly expensive and inconsistent. Now we have one guy do it, for much cheaper and with more consistency. It makes sense. And it also frees up the nation states time to run their country instead of worrying about being the chairman of Europe too.

And he isn't replacing the jobs of nation states or elected representatives.

  • If he has no executive power then why have a president at all? Why not just keep our nation states and our elected representatives?

  • Will people stop saying that Lord Pearson is anti-Muslim! He is not! He stands full square behind the vast majority of peaceful Muslims; all he wants is for them to get up off their bottoms and to take on their violent co-religionists. It doesn't happen though, does it? That's the point!

  • Hahaha, what on Earth are you on about? "He has no executive power, but he is in effect the EU president" erm... Well then he's a pretty crap President if he doesn't have executive power haha

He is not the EU president and that is simply a lie. He sits in a room when all the heads of government get together, and he guides the discussions to make them as productive as possible (without materially contributing). It replaces the expensive system of countries hosting the presidency. It makes sense.

  • They're not exactly gonna admit it, are they? Technically, he has no executive power, but he is in effect the EU president.

Don't believe everything you read. You should know that by now.

  • As I have already said, no it does not. Stop lying. He is a chairman. Get over it. He has no executive power at all. Quote to me the part of the Lisbon Treaty where is says he does. It'll take you a while to find it.

  • UKIP does not release soundbites; they release facts. How can the statement, "80% of our laws are decided in Brussels" be proved wrong? It can't, because it's true!

The Lisbon Treaty WAS forced upon us without a referendum. Ireland DID vote no and they were forced to vote again. It's a fact!

  • Van Rompuy is the president of the European council, which effectively makes him the EU president.
