  • @ST0RMracing4ever totaly agree

  • Sterling Marlin????

  • @75flash Now we have the hans device (to keep the drivers head from going forward) compressible wall, etc. Didn't have any of that when dale crashed. I think he died of whiplash. That or hit his head on the dash or steering wheel.

  • @practiCalfMRI Yeah, that was a hard hit. Back 10 years ago, pretty good chance he would've died.

  • who was on the bottom????

  • How did this crash kill him?

  • @1987CHEVYNOVA Oh ok, I gotcha.

  • @75flash For one Senior was not a fan of driving with any kinda restraints, for another unlike now of days where the walls of the race track have a cushioned Styrofoam protection when he hit he did so unto solid concrete at about 185MPH straight on, most likely broke is neck hit his head on the steering wheel heavy whip lash we can only speculate either way he was not alive when they got to his car. The day that racing changed forever!!!

  • Just saw Jimmy Johnson nail the wall at Charlotte (BofA500). As soon as he got sideways I was thinking about DE's 2001 crash. That new compressible wall, the Hans device and all the other mods... yeah, I'd say they just combined to save a life. Chalk another one up to the legacy of DE. (And kudos to NASCAR for maintaining the spectacle without the injuries.)

  • Honestly, not trying to sound like a dick, but here is what I don't understand. What exactly killed him? I mean, we see crashes worse than that all the time and drivers barely get hurt. Anybody know what specifically caused his death?
