nice i went diving 2day and caught a 13inch big enough 2 feed my family

I'm glad to see that 1- diver checks the size BEFORE taking the abs 2- uses their iron properly, pushing the blade to the rocks, away from the abalone & 3- That they are in N CA (assuming the time of year they are in season) & are hunting during the day.
After seeing the decimation of abalone in CA, I quit taking abs in the late 1980's.
I haven't taken any abs since the late 80's. They have perhaps a single shot at spawning before this age, maybe 2, yet we use them for water quality 4 us :(

Hello, fellow abalone divers. We have a common enemy. The sunflower starfish. Every time, I dive in anywhere in california, I see many sunflower starfish, yes, light purple color the ones with 20 arms. They are eating abalone at an scary rate. I usually cut them up into tiny pieces. Please help, by cutting up these prediators of the abalone. Let's protect the abalone populations , so that there will be more abs for us in the future.

I use a Pannisonic Lumix FX-07, which is an old model. The newer model is better and takes fantastic images. It is important to have a wide angle lens so that you can be very close to the subject and still fit it in the frame. This way the image is not washed out and doesn't have a lot of particles floating between the camera and subject. The FX-07 has a built in wide angle lens. This is the least expensive way to get a wide angle lens, but you can also add a lens to the housing.
