Hastings DEMU 1001 on its way from Hastings to Bridgnorth with the Severn Explorer railtour between Earley and Reading. I used to take these home from School (usually a Class 207 on the way there), and remember them as loud, cramped and uncomfortable. Twenty five years on I hang around to get photos of them...

  • Lots of "character"in those exhaust ports!

  • Nice vid, we are so glad you did hang around to get a shot!

  • @MrGettingtooold Ah, I'm glad somebody more knowledgable got in there! They used to usually have "22" when I took them ("23" for Cannon Street?)

  • @MrGettingtooold Southern trains still display the old headcodes; I'm not sure why though.

  • @KINGANDCASTLE . The 86 refers to the last two digits of the train reporting number on the outward run, 1Z86. This is the now customary display on trips rather than the old SR Headcodes.

  • The train had no headcode at Wokingham. Is 86 the SR headcode for Hastings to Bridgnorth?
