The Better Beer Authority gets a little fruity with Buffalo Bill's Orange Blossom Cream Ale. How much fruit is too much? Why does Joby turn the tables on James and start asking the questions?

Partial Transcript: "James: On Tap Orange Blossom Cream Ale

This is your Better Beer Authority. Im James Knott. Today we are talking about Orange Blossom Cream Ale which is brewed by Pyramid Brewing for Buffalo Bills Brewery in Hayward, CA which is 30 miles SE of San Francisco.

This is a fruit beer with 5.2% ABV and 13 IBUs. The company claims it is made with sweet orange peel, orange blossom extract and honey. This seasonal offering is only available in the Spring and Summer.

Ratebeer.com recommends drinking this beer out of a flute thus, I finally have a reason to drink out of my High School Prom glasses a pint glass will also work.

Lets learn A Flute is a tall, thin glass with a short stem. Its elegant shape helps preserve the carbonation and showcase the sparkling color of the beer. It is also said to enhance the intensity of the aroma. Its good for fruit beers, Belgian lambics, ciders and some pilseners.

Q&A Anytime you add fruit to beer it seems to be controversial. Is this a controversial beer?

Scott: No I think its exactly what its billed to be. Its a cream ale with a fruity taste and a fruity flavor. You could even use it as a champagne substitute if you really wanted. Its just a fruity beer.

James: Joby is this more or less fruity than you expected?

Joby: James I didnt really know what to expect when I was having this beer. I guess its more fruity. I mean coming out of a beer bottle you would think it would have a lot more beer taste to it. The first taste, even the aroma, you can really smell the fruit, the orange, coming out of it, so I would have to say its more fruity than I expected.

James: You dont think this is beer-like?

Joby: Not at all. Its almost, like Scott said, champagney. Its very high in carbonation. It fizzes in your mouth a little bit. The alcohol taste doesnt stay in your mouth, so its not even like you are drinking a beer.

Scott: Its non-existent.

Joby: Yeah.

James: Adam, would you say that this is clean and crisp? How would you describe it?

Adam: My first impression of it was that it taste like orange Tang carbonated orange Tang. The flavor of it is clean and crisp. Its not what Im looking for in a beer. But again its a fruit beer. This is one of the only fruit beers, one of the few fruit beers where they actually add fruit to it. A lot of times, when they brew beers to be fruit beers its just in the fermentation process, but here they are adding the fruit peel to it.

James: But when you say Tang, this isnt nearly as sour or sweet as Tang?

Adam: Oh no this is pretty sweet.

James: You think so?

Adam: To me this has no resemblance to beer. When you are thinking about a fruit beer, I like a beer that tastes like fruit and beer. This tastes just very fruity.

Scott: I think Adams reliving his high school days with this beer. The days when he was dropping a little orange Jolly Rancher into his Zima.

Adam: I didnt even know what Zima was in high school. I dont know when you thought I graduated. Im not that old.

just bought this beer sat down and watch my smile turn into a frown watching this. Its true too fruity if you are used to actual dark or pale ale. I do like that its true to its name tho. Very orangey and creamy but they forgot to add shit ton of carbonation that upsets my stomach. for 8 bucks tho im gonna enjoy this shit maybe one a day in the morning hah.a. cereal and orange blossom what a nutritious breakfast.
