  • Great info. I just ran across this video looking for something else and I am really happy to have found this. The way you deciphered and decoded the ingredients of that "oatmeal" bar was great. Can you explain synthetic organic foods I ran across that term a few times over the past few weeks. I know it's self explanitory but in regards to vegans and vegeterians how does this affect them when some of the chemical elements could very well be animal by- products with a scientific sounding name?

  • @AMWalker926 In all honesty, I am not familiar with the somewhat oxymoronic term "synthetic organic foods." Certainly the term "organic" means different things to different people...it means something very different to a chemist vs a one who has a vegan-style eating pattern. I will look into this and thank you for bringing it to my attention!

  • I was wondering if you were aware of the mercury found in corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup. This is concerning me greatly and I haven't been able to find any more information on it other than that which I read in a few articles online. They were valid sources, but I wanetd to know if it has been resolved? The mercury comes from the caustic soda used to soak and separate the starch from the kernels of the corn. This really is an outrage.

  • @Joyness333 Yes, the literature on mercury in HFCS as a byproduct of the processing is legitimate even though the study was limited in many respects. In any case, chemical processing and extraction are bound to leave chemical impurities in the final product, so all things being equal, we are best served by minimizing our exposure to processed products. Thank you for your comment.

  • You know when they said "HFCS is no different than ordinary sugar" in those ads? They're actually not lying. HFCS is not any worse for us then regular fructose, the problem is the quantity. HFCS makes it too easy to have to much sugar, but it is no worse than regular everyday fructose.

  • @ChrisL101 Very good points made! HFCS used as a sweetener in drinks is 55/45 fructose/glucose vs table sugar which is 50/50, so you're largely correct. Fructose is OK in moderate amounts...eg, is the key sugar in fruit...of course fruit also has phyto-nutrients and fiber, etc. The problem is that in processed foods and drinks, the quantity is outrageous and because of the way fructose is metabolized, promotes fat storage. Sugar is no bargain either and should be used moderately.

  • (This doc is excellent; I meant the Corporate medical system racket;-))

  • The Medical Racket Yep; we pumped you full of our High Fructose Corn Syrup and Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils; so; yeah those triglycerides are high; that'll be $200 for the blood test corporate measurment. Pay the Private Corporation now for the measurement ; yep; you sure are filled up with fats; and oh by the way; you gotta be RE measured again every time for another $200 billing cycle before we let you purchase our corporate pill for another $200. And then remeasured every 2 months

  • I can only imagine that the deceptive corporations that engage is this kind of foul ; filthy behavior have to be republican run.

  • you rule

  • @salvatorebellombo You are absolute right...the Quaker man is perceived as the "halo" of blanket approval which is not the case! As well, you are spot on about the bacon and eggs being healthier than the processed crap.

  • @incontinencedoc Exactly, fructose, in my opinion, is a poison in the quantities we are consuming it at. People want to totally blame HFCS, but it's not that terrible, it's the quantity. But the fact that there's no fiber in those sugary drinks to slow it's digestion, like in fruit, it turns straight into fat.
