GamesForLife (1715) vs Me (1799). This game is a Grand Prix Sicilian where I play the hedgehog defense. I play very solidly which I really do not like but it is easy to get a counter-attack in the center and since you stifle white's main "Grand Prix" ideas it works really well.

  • 18. Rxe3 would have been nice instead of recapturing the pawn around 3:11, i think :)

  • Yes, 18...Rxe3 would have been much better. My move gives him a chance to get out of all the tactics I get later on. Luckily he did not see the danger though.

  • In military warfare the Hedgehog defence is a form of defence where soldiers create many small strongpoints where the enemy is allowed to pass through or to attack them.

A strongpoint will fight on even if surrounded and this will slow down the attacker.

When the enemy refuses to fight the strongpoint and moves on, the soldiers are able to threaten the supply lines. Had France used this in WW2 i can assure you that they would at least hold out for some more months.

  • Good tactics! Keep em comin'!

  • Good play by black, that particular opening set-up is very flexible, I use it against the kings indian attack and other non-contact openings by white. Nice to see it against the grand prix.
