You morons do realize the premise right? This is back when the GAB was a month long event, not one night. Flair was going to defend the belt for 30 straight days, and this was his 1st match. Knowledge is key boys. Go get some.

Damn 80's wrestling seems like that was the peak of Pro Wrestling not even the late 90's. Multiple companies, territories, hard working and hard playing wrestlers. Too bad I wasnt even a twinkle in my dads eye yet as of this match!

Looks like a mismatch on paper, Hawk's gotta be 6'3 280-285 pounds. Probably benches 550 pounds but Ric Flair is the Nature Boy.

@TheLeroyMoon I have to admit I am greatful for NFL football here now but other than that they can keep the rest of the post bball Charlotte. All I know is if someone says to you "Yo momma looks like Dusty Rhodes" you gotta throw down lol. Flair and Morton both brought it that night and the whole show was pretty good from start to finish. It's amazing how many of the matches from that night alone are now popping up on these WWE DVDs: Road Warriors vs. Koloffs chain match, Flair vs. Morton etc.

@BradNC11175 Amen: as a Charlotte native, I prefer the pre-bball Charlotte. Coe was the pre-card show at GAB1 where Flair beat N. Koloff. I can't recall the concert for the following 2 GABs in Charlotte. I recall kids in the ring, & I'm pretty certain it was Schavone & David Crockett that chased everyone out. There wasn't as much fighting at the 1rst GAB as at the 2nd/3rd - I guess people were more respectful of the rare"one-of-a-kind" event. By the 3rd, they took the GAB for granted.

@TheLeroyMoon I hear ya, I was at GAB 86 in Charlotte. Hell of a night, brings back good old memories lol. I recall more fights in the stands than in the ring lol. Flair arriving in the Channel 9 helicopter and after the match all the kids bumrushed the ring, tried to have a battle royal. I can't recall if it was Tony Schavoni or Jim Ross that chased us all out lol. Was that David Allen Coe that put on the pre match concert do you recall? Back then Charlotte NC was almost worth a shit lol.

It would have been cool to have him drop the belt two or three times during this run. In other words, "wrestling isn't fake and things can happen which are suprising." It's always a lot more fun when shocking things happen, like let Ricky Morton have the belt for one day and then have Flair win it back the next day. The crowd would have gone ape shit for the title change.
