Golgappa balls are an Indian snack food. Here our guide, Padmaja Bharti ("Daisy"), samples some at the India Gate memorial in New Delhi, India. Since this was early in our tour many weren't yet prepared to eat "street" food until their stomachs settled. Of course, by tour's end most of us were eating most everything!

  • I am Punjabi, but I've never been to India before although I would like to one day. But in my family we do not eat this spicy hot food, we like mild food. We don't even use chillies in our food. I guess being an American I am used to mild foods. The tourists are better off not eating this because water from India can get your very sick if your body is not used to the bacteria in it.

I agree with you. However, travelers have to be careful about what they drink and eat no matter where they go - I've been very sick at times in America, Japan, and Europe so it's probably just a matter of what our stomachs are accustomed to. Thank you for the information about your family background and foods!

  • didn't the divvy tourists at least try the gol goppa, I love them, the hotter and sourer the better

  • @Britcenturion

I ate a lot of 'em later and they were great!

  • Only 1 at a time!

I think our guide was being overly cautious, at the time, as most of us had just gotten off the airplane the night before...

  • Your very welcome. Actually we all have different bacteria in our systems from all over the world and that is why we get sick when we travel to different countries. I have never been outside of America but my Dad told me that. I am half Punjabi by the way and half Italian.
