My grandpa SAMMY FULLER fought both of these men.. He took the title from Jackie Kid Berg in May 20 1932... This was THE GOLDEN ERA when fighters were street born.

For all their experience the two fighters were just 21 and 22. Canzoneri had been fighting in this type of class for three years. About the comments below, it's very difficult to compare styles with a view to picking winners generations apart. Canzoeri fought with hands down but was lightning fast, tending to draw people on. He, like Duran, was rugged and strong. Duran was harder to hit than he looked. I'd say Canzoneri had the better chin, but despite the ending here was no banger.

@chunkyscotty agreed....especially with canzoneri's john wayne jab (leavin his hands down at his sides)....duran would have had problems with tony's slick pivot allowing him to literally slip the punch without slipping (seen over and over with his fight against lou ambers)....but ultimately it would have ended in a KO by duran....guaranteed.......stil
l tho....u gotta love canzoneri....the ORIGINAL floyd mayweather style, without the flinching, off balance wide stance, and leaning in on his right -
He's my cousin.

He and my uncle Benny were boxers who were from New Orleans ,La.........These big shots from NYC came down and saw my uncle Benny and Tony Canzoneri fight.....my grandparents would not let my uncle go to NYC and fight.......Tony Canzoneri's mom and dad told him yesss....and the rest is history...very good friends with my family.........RIP....TONY
Canzoneri was a skillful, hard punching boxer but there is no way he would have wiped the floor with Roberto Duran.
