EU Parliament Chief gives the game away and says that 75% of all our laws are EU-made. He says that it will be 100% once the Lisbon Treaty is ratified.

Uhm, sorry guys but I happen to understand German and the subtitles are a mistranslation. He did NOT say 75% of member states' laws are made by Europe. He says of the laws passed by the European Union 75% are made by the European Parliament.

He does not in any way state how much of an influence those laws have on individual member states. This is a horrible example of twisting and (willfully - I have to assume) misrepresenting someone's words. Shocking!

Speaking as a Eurosceptic myself, I am sorry to tell you that the statement made by Mr Pottering has been misinterpreted.

He was saying not saying that 75% of all the laws in Europe are made by the EU, but that that 75% of the laws made by the EU are passed by the EU Parliament.

If you listen to his whole speech, it is obvious that that is what he meant.

There's a difference between law passed by the Union and law passed by member states. Unless you'd claim that 100% of EU member state laws are made by the EU?

@Mim237 @Mim237 are you out of your mind? What other laws are there in the EU?????Are you saying there are laws in the EU made "by Europe" (whatever that means) that don't go thru the EP? By EU he of course meant individual member states. The subtitles may not correspond 100%, the point, nonetheless, remains unchanged.

And I can give you transcript of one of his interviews in one Slovak magazine, where he said that even more clearly.
