i've had the D3100 for a year and i'm going on a safari trip soon...do you think it's worth me upgrading to the D7000?

@hemchandran777 both are good, d7000 has slightly better image quality and canon has speed. If you shoot action or sports the canon may be best and if you shoot low light the d7000 may be better.

what is the main difference between the nikkor 35mm f/1.8G compared to the 50mm f/1.4G?

@justinlow1990 the 35mm is only for dx cameras and the 50mm is a bit faster at f/1.4. If you own a dx camera the  35mm is just as good.
