This is a tree that was never chopped down
To make a crutch that was never needed
By a child who never got polio
Because medicine was never in short supply
Thanks to people whose compassion wasn't either.
Over the past twenty years, Rotary club members have helped immunize over two billion children against polio. Thanks to them, the world will soon be polio-free.

Polio isn't such a major problem now...because Rotary and it's partners have been fighting it since 1985. In that year Polio was endemic in 125 countries and is now endemic in 4, with reported cases dropping from about 300,000 p/a to about 1000.
Obviously poverty and the knock on effects of hunger and war need to be adressed as well but you can't really question the effectiveness of the campaign or the vaccinations.

actually I like the idea of rotary, but polio vaccines aren't neccessary - in my opinion they are pretty dangerous. Polio isn't major a problem and vaccinations were too often used to damage the fertility of women (like in China) and it is questionable wether it is usefull at all. Please do not the wrong thing by trying to do the right one. Please research the discussion about polio vaccines (and vaccinations at all) and make your own opinion. Africa is suffering war, hunger etc. not Polio
