The Hummer Finally Landed

August 12, 2009, the Black-Chinned Hummingbird that has given me so much fun this summer landed on my finger. I was so excited because he has done so many other things for me but this was a first. You can see my finger started to shake when he landed and then the second time it was shaking so much. I was speechless (those that know me won't believe I am ever speechless) so did not say anything during the video or after. He did land on my finger earlier this morning but was just sitting in Dianes Garden and did not have my cameria with me.

Yes I could feel his claws. My finger was shaking so much. It has been a long one trying to get him to do this. Hope you have been ok.

Takes a while for them to get used to you, but they do! I've done this a few times and eventually they will sit quietly and feed. It looks like your finger might be a little too far from the feeder to make a comfortable perch. The bird was really stretching to reach the feeder. Try moving about 1" to the right. Once the bird can hover easily to feed, move your finger to the left very slowly until you make contact and the bird should grab on and sit. :-)
