Ethiopian Eritrean war: Over 150,000 Eritreans killed

The Ethiopian airforce played a great role in dismantling the Eritrean army during the two year war. Asmara and Massawa airports were rendered useless by Ethiopian war planes. The Eritrean airforce managed in frustration two attacks, one on a pharmacy and the other, the infamous Ayder attack in which Eritrean pilots were ordered to slam rockets into a primary school.

The Ethiopian airforce destroyed Eritrean runways, miliray hardware storages, and played a role in the Badme battle where the Eritrean built fortified trenches were broken down and destroyed by Ethiopian forces. The army and airforce cooperation was too much for the overconfident Eritreans who were slaughtered on the fronts of Badme, Bure, Zalambessa and Tsorona.

An Eritrean soldier, a veteran of the badme defeat was asked about his country's airforce. "We did not see them. We were told that our airforce downed Ethiopian planes, but we never saw this happen. Also we were told Ethiopia doesnt have heavy weapons. But we got thrashed."

Later the same soldier added, "maybe our planes are in the museums!"
