  • Finnissy's pieces look so difficult, almost as complicated as Sorabji O_o

  • This piece is unequivocally far more difficult and complex than anything Sorabji wrote.

  • From what he last told me, he's actually done recording it. Has been for a couple years. The label keeps putting it on hold and/or going bankrupt and selling it to a new one.

  • @inafantasy I understand Ian Pace is in the process of recording the entire work, but I don't know anything more specific than that.

  • @4candles Where can I find a recording, if there are any, of The History of Photography in Sound, exactly?

  • The piano sonorities at the beginning remind me of George Crumb's 'Music of the Starry Night'.

  • Essentially yes. This piece doesn't last too long, but the stamina and concentration required to play it would be incredible! His piano work 'The History of Photography in Sound' lasts between 5 and 6 hours; the score is unbelievable! If you have never seen any of Finnissy's scores, they are mind-bogglingly difficult, more complex than those of Sorabji, though some of Sorabji's as-yet-unperformed piano works apparently last longer. I think I prefer the Sorabji soundworld though...

  • This is ok. I play it much better.

  • this dudes like me, f*k a piano lesson

  • Pretty amazing, I love this piece.

  • What is a solo piano concerto? Is it a piano concerto with no orchestra?

It may be more complicated than Sorabji bar for bar...but does this go on for 4 hours?

Sorabji's O.C. seems to demand greater stamina (although personally I don't like it).

This is more interesting music than Sorabji's O.C.
