In the wake of the midterm elections, Republican lawmakers are vowing to repeal or defund the Democrats' landmark healthcare reform bill that President Obama signed into law earlier this year. A health insurance insider-turned-whistleblower argues that, instead of repealing the law altogether, Republicans will ultimately settle for gutting the law of its provisions that protect consumers. That's because the insurance industry is a major beneficiary of healthcare reform and they're also a major contributor to Republican campaigns. Wendell Potter should know. He spent two decades as a spokesman for two of the nation's largest health insurers, Humana and CIGNA. He quit and made national headlines in June of last year when he testified on Capitol Hill about the profit motive driving the unscrupulous practices of the insurance industry. Wendell Potter joins Democracy Now! for an extended interview about his new book, "Deadly Spin: An Insurance Company Insider Speaks Out on How Corporate PR is Killing Health Care and Deceiving Americans."

  • 1:50: Did he say "THE BEST HEALTHCARE IN THE WORLD"? That is such an insult to so many countys!

  • Moore's doco Sicko says it all. If you haven't seen it please do! America is a sick society that values little pieces of paper more than human health and well-being. Yet people are so deluded that they somehow think that universal health care is bad for them and unconstitutional. Obama said it all, "I just want to make them (the insurance industry) accountable! Sigh, oh well, back to business as usual.

  • End the gouging and gangster profiteering of the 'healthcare' corporations. -- SickForProfit - com ... Investigate the corporate gangsters in Congress: OpenSecrets - org ... MapLight - org ... Corporate CEO's are looters. Many Congresspeople, especially Republicans, are liars.

  • The GOP plan - Don't get sick, if you do, die fast.

    Mr. Grayson understood this.
