Cash for Clunkers aka Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS). The government-sponsored Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS) was created to spur new car sales and boost the struggling auto industry. If you own a car or light truck that returns EPA combined fuel economy of 18 mpg or less, you may soon be able to scrap that vehicle in exchange for a $3,500 or $4,500 credit toward the purchase of a more fuel efficient new vehicle. This program is pure crap please do not support it. There is nothing green about this, building a new car pollutes the environment a lot more than running one of these older cars. Obama simply found another way to use tax payer money to generate sales for the GM and UAW. This is going to screw people who rely on cheap used cars, mechanics, body shops and as always American tax payers.

Amen @grexample! C4C is just another example of Socialists implementing their beloved Progressivist economic policies. C4C is a horrendous Keynesian shot in the arm of the US economy. And here you have Kelly Blue Book and car dealers nationwide participating in the inflation of the US dollar. Thank you Kelly Blue Book! Thank you dealers! C4C Dumb Economics: Any so-called stimulus program is a ruse. Government increases its spending only by reducing private spending equivalently. Whether government finances its added spending by hiking taxes, borrowing, or by inflating the currency, the added spending will be offset by reduced private spending. Plus, private spending's much more efficient than government spending replacing it because people act more carefully spending their own money than spending other people's money.

Greedy ones are the direct beneficiaries of this government handout: Car buyers who didn't want to work for that extra $4500 & lazy union thugs and greedy parts guys who want tax dollars to subsidize their business.

Now gee let me think, now what has the federal government done in the past that has been totally successful? Well the most successful thing would have to be the Social Security System. If the Feds would have left it alone we would have a surplus today. But that's not the case, Social Security is safe today but will run deficits in just 12 years.. However what we now have, as recently quoted by Senator Orrin Hatch, Medicare on the edge of bankruptcy with $38 trillion in future costs.
