  • botany is the study of plants and their functions.

horticulture is the study of their growing methods and use of plants.

  • I hope this doesn't sound dumb, but what is the difference between horticulture and botany? I love plants and "tinkering" with them..gardening is passion of mine. I wanted to study plants, but I don't have the means to go to school any further.

  • General question: It is good to mix potting soil with charcoal?? I know about slash and burn but there is low qality soil that coal helps, i tryed to mix a good potting soil with bit of sand and coal powder and i did'nt see really good result..even worst..it seems the soil is getting less aerate and you can easy overwater it..that what heppened to my basil..from other side somewere i saw information that coal is prohibited to mix with high acidic soil and most of potting soil are such..
