  • "If you hear your gerbil thumping his hind legs rhythmically, something has startled him, and he is warning any other gerbils who might be in the area that there might be danger. Usually, if one of your gerbils starts thumping his feet, the other gerbils within earshot will also start thumping their feet. Usual ly, it's something like a sudden, unexpected movement by a human in the house.

  • My gerbil did this for about a minute straight after he heard a titmouse chirp outside my window. :)

  • @MrDann011 Or mating, or just for the fun of it.

  • my pet gerbil coconut does that every day. by the way, elmo is also a cute name, since i'm in fifth grade, taking care of coconut is soo much fun!

  • That signs for danger!

  • Gerbils are drumming when they sense danger, when they drumming they say there gerbil friends that "danger is coming".

  • who knew that gerbils can have happy feet

  • It is his mating call or he is very exited or nervous

  • HE's just scared by:a sound, sudden movement,or see's anything that he thinks will attack him;he's just warning any gerbils nearby to be cautious.

  • @shredder710 nope, no seizure. He was just startled either by a sound, shadow or quick movement and is warning any other gerbils :)
