Nice speech Paul. Couldn't say anything?

I think Wayne was happy about the Beatles getting the award, even though it signaled a new wave he could never join. Nice job. You could tell that this gathering of the Establishment was not McCartney's crowd, everybody stiff and formal, which was probably why he just hung out in the back. He was even more of an alien based on the cultural gap than the fact that he was British. Interesting juxtaposition, interesting choices, a real changing of the guard moment in pop history.

Brevity is the highest form of wit. Paul explained that with his acceptance speech. Cool. Peace brothers. Bear.

On reflection I'm sure Paul regretted attending this, but then 1970 must have been a pretty brain mashing experience for all 4.

It looks like Paul didn't expect to win that night judging from his attire and footwear - and his speech ! But what a great track !

@schimmelpenninq Only because he didn't write any of the songs included on the soundtrack album. (no song credits by Ringo)

Many of you don't understand what was happening at the time, but those of us who were there understand.
Take a look at the Grammy Award for "Album of the Year" between 1964 and 1970 and you will see that the Old WW2 generation who hated The Beatles and everyone with long hair virtually ignored The Beatles' albums except for Sgt. Pepper. Look at the artists who won instead. Nice albums but not Album of the Year.
Most of us realized that the Grammys were a joke and we didn't blame you Paul.
