I'm getting ready for my checkride. My instructor,Mike Mossman, sat down with me after today's flight and gave me a list of things to study to prepare for the oral portion of my checkride. He said it was too windy and bumpy today to go out and practice checkride maneuvers. The wind would bounce us around so much he wouldn't be able to tell if I was flying to checkride standards.I suggested we go up for a short flight and practice crosswind takeoffs and landings.Mike said that he feels I'm handling crosswinds well enough to fly solo in crosswinds up to 16 kts. which is the aircrafts max.demonstrated crosswind.Todays crosswind was about 13 kts. You'll see on takeoff as soon as the plane leaves the ground my instructor lets the nose of the plane swing into the wind and allow the plane to establish a crab angle. On downwind I had a crab angle where the nose was pointed to about the 2 o'clock position.

  • @dronald777 I see you intrested in driving planes like that? Will you drive pppaseenger planes one day?

  • @ghostgamers5467 I only intend to fly for fun,not for a career.I would consider flight instructing someday. For that I would need a Private Pilot certificate and an instrument rating.-D.W.

  • That was an incredible landing in a light plane with 13kt crosswinds.

  • @MikeAroni1974 That was my instructor,Mike Mossman, doing that landing. He's a great pilot and a good guy.He left around 8months ago to fly for Continental express. He's flying an ERJ-145.Light planes can be difficult to land in a crosswind.Experience is the best teacher.I use the sideslip method in a crosswind.I want to learn the crab method, which is the type of landing done in this video.-D.W.

  • Good luck with your check ride. The CTLS is the best LSA out there.

  • @HagarST Thanks. The CTLS is the only LSA that I've flown.Really nice airplane.I'll make some more videos in the CTLS soon.

  • @sortashaman I'm thinking 4-6 weeks from today.Been working a lot lately plus with all the rain we've had it has really set me back from preparing for my checkride.

  • Very nice! I haven't much experience yet, but look forward to resuming training in the CTLS! I guess when you landed from the crab angle, that's called "kicking out the crab"? Any idea when you'll do your checkride?

  • @PilotComedian Thank you!

  • Best of luck on your checkride! Looks like you'll do just fine. And you chose the right aircraft for your training too. I love the CTLS!
