  • Great info. Thanks. What is the name of the fly you were tying?

  • This is a wool head fly that Marc ties. It's great for bass but many other species as well. I'm not aware of it being available commercially.

  • You are not going up with the two points with the x

up into the eye of the hook are you? It didn't look like it, but I wasn't sure.

  • The mono is placed right behind the eye after the twist and tied off there. That way there's no obstruction in the eye. The burned mono prevents the tabs from being puled back through.

  • can you buy that specific fly?

  • I was fortunate to sit in front of Marc and watch him tie this guard last weekend at Texoma Tie-In 2008.

A point that gets missed in the video above is that the continuous loop of weed guard is twisted into a sort of figure-8 configuration before being laid over the hook eye and THEN snipped. I had missed this in my initial viewing of the video oh those months ago. Seeing Marc tie it last weekend I could then spot this point in the video.

  • Very nice weed guard. I like the technique.

    Thanks for filming this!

  • Very good demo! Tied a few already this way.
