In 1973 Henri Cartier-Bresson spoke as part of a series organized by Cornell Capa. HIs observations on photography are paired here with many of his most well known images. In this excerpt of the DVD available from icp.org, you get a sense of his succinct insightful observations on the photographic medium.

  • Is that him talking or someone else narrating and reading his words?

  • Yes, that is him speaking at a talk at ICP in NYC.

  • I believe this excerpt is from and excellent series titled The Genius of Photography.

  • This is a bit of an unfortunate cut-out of the documentary, as half-way and especially with the comment at the end, his words could be mistaken to promote mindlessly taking thousands of pictures.

  • Which DVD is this from? - the ICP site doesn't seem to list it.

  • Even with his words, he captured the decisive moment.

  • life is once, forever! nice

  • Born in Budapest in 1918, Cornell Capa came to

New York City in 1937. He became a staff photographer at LIFE

magazine in 1946, and in 1954 joined the influential Magnum agency,

which was founded by his brother, photojournalist Robert Capa. Microcinema International's EXCLUSIVELY DISTRIBUTED "Toward the Margin of Life" will be released on 6/15/10. The audiovisual presentation provides a

candid glimpse into Cornell’s world of concerned photography.
