DNA evidence will be what exonerates three West Memphis, Arkansas teenagers (now in their thirties) who were wrongfully convicted of a triple homicide in 1993. Known as the West Memphis Three - Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Miskelley, Jr. - have finally been granted a new evidentiary hearing after eighteen years in prison, as the result of multiple DNA evidence results from the victims bodies and crime scene that exclude them all!!!

Wonder how many innocent people the USA has sent to the chair?

Is there ever a case where an IP client turns out to be guilty, like Roger Keith Coleman? He convinced a lot of people, including Centurion Ministries, a precursor of innocence projects, of his innocence in the murder of his sister in law, but DNA testing showed ultimately showed he did it.
Innocent people convicted of crimes is terrible, but there are so many people who claim they didn't do it, when in fact they did. I think that situation outnumbers wrongly convicted innocent people.

My husband, Steven Peace is is prison - He has been there for almost 7 years. I have been working on overturning his trial since the day of his conviction. It's hard, it's expensive, and it takes a lot of faith. Unfortunately there is no DNA evidence , only statements from criminals and obvious manufactured forensic evidence. the crime was murder. It was a cold case more than 20 years old.
@Gwyka yes, DNA testing in Innocence Project cases does sometimes confirm the prosecution's theory and point to the defendant's involvement in the crime.
We accept cases if DNA testing could potentially prove innocence, so we don't make a judgement about guilt or innocence before sending a case to testing. Of those that make it to testing, 43% prove innocence, 42% confirms the prosecution theory and 15% are inconclusive.
