@szetotakwa Secretariat was like that as well. He could win from any position on the track - giving up ground on the outside, from the inside, on the lead, from far back. He could feed off the pace, or create his own. It's this kind of versatility that separates the great from the truly great. The formidable son of Nijinsky is also to be included in the latter category.
@BigPetrov Let's not talk about the record time Deep Impact made in 16f. I heard his reputation and evaluation are much higher than El Condor Pasa(99 Arc runner-up) in Japan, no need to mention Nakayama Festa(10 Arc runner-up) is rated way below these two. Besides, did you not notice the jockey had a bad ride that he put DI up on the pace when DI always raced like Dancing Brave? DB wouldn't have won either. It's like putting a front runner like Sakhee racing at the back of the field!
@bgardiner2000 "Staggering", sure, but against whom and on what type of track? It's a known fact that Japanese turf courses (like Tokyo) are much faster than ones in Europe and Australia. Check out the 12f times at Tenno Sho, and compare them to races like the Arc, Melbourne Cup, Epsom and even the JCGC on dirt when it was run at 2 miles - the great Kelso's best clocking at the latter was still SIX secs slower than Deep Impact. In 09, Meiner Kitz (who?) clocked a 3:14.4 at Tenno Sho. So what?!
@AldoGodolfus Yes, this horse was great because of his sire, Derby, Preakness and Breeders Cup Classic champ, and 1989 Horse Of the Year, Sunday Silence. Having said that, Deep Impact lost fair and square in the Arc when he faced strong competition, instead of the mainly below-grade Japanese horses he was running against, on that country's ultra fast courses (check out the times at the Japan Cup and others). His 135 Timeform is about right.
japan always cheats, deserved to be disqualified, they just cheated in The Sprinter Stakes last month

@BigPetrov The only horse that can adapt no matter what tactic and still win the race was Lammtarra.

@BigPetrov Correction from last comment: not "12f times at Tenno Sho", but 16f!

日本で59.5を背負うことなんて無いですからね
それにしても牝馬で58背負ってあそこまで走れるプライドが強すぎる

@AldoGodolfus But he did test positive to Ipratropium? Take nothing away from him. He was one of the truly great modern day gallopers.
