Technically, this was a perfect performance. But on an emotional level, this wasn't even close to Barbara's rendition of the song. I was waiting to see how Beyonce would interpret the bit where it says "We simply choose to forget" at 2.15, which in my opinion is a key moment of transformation in the song. Up until this moment, Barbara performed it as a quiet imminent storm, and this is where it erupts because choosing to forget the way they were is the most painful. Beyonce did not get that.
