Ego Den Ime Piitis - I'm Not A Poet

This poem was written by Andreou Lazaros during the dictatorship in Greece (from 1967 to 1974). It was then put into music by composer & singer Nikos Papazoglou.
The gorgeous harpist and singer Elisa Vellia taught us this tune during one of her workshops in Brittany... I hope she won't be disappointed by my rendition of the song. :-)

So as always, I hope you'll forgive some errors (voice half-recovering from a recent bad cold, but couldn't wait AND a bit of nervosity). I'm not really used to sing this kind of song so I hope my type of voice goes along with it. Don't hesitate to tell me what you think! :D

The lyrics are:

EGO DEN IME PIITIS, IME STIHAKI
IME STIHAKI TIS STIGMIS, PANO SE TIHO FILAKIS, KE SE PAGAKI

ME TRAGOUDENE I TRELI, KE I ALITES
KATARMENI INE FILI, ME MIA EXORISTI PSIHI, SA TOUS PLANITES...

EGO DEN IME PIITIS, IME O LIGMOS TOU
IME ENAS DIPNOS MISTIKOS, DIPLA O IOUDAS KLEI SKIFTOS, KIME ADELFOS TOU.

... And they mean (this is my approximative translation, Please bear in mind much of the magic gets chopped off when translated!):

I'm not a poet but the verse of a song
A verse coming now and then on the walls of a jailhouse or on a bench

I'm sung by the insane and vagrants
It (being a poet) is a cursed race with a soul as banished as planets...

I'm not a poet but his sob
I'm the Last Supper and beside me Judas cries and I'm his brother.

The fools are singing me and the tramps.

I am a cursed tribe, with a soul

exiled to other planets.

I am a Mystical Supper, nearby Judas is crying dejected

and I am his brother.

Sinon en hébreu je chante "Shir Al Etz" depuis longtemps, mais ne sais si je la mettrai en vidéo un jour, car il s'agit de la version de Cécile Corbel.

Its very nice to see foreigners that still admire the Greek culture and arts. The new world order wants Greece to stay back and even forgotten entirely. Even so cultural people like you worldwide keep the Greek light of humanity alive. Thank you as a listener and 1000 thank you as a Greek.
