Yes, a PC is definitely a better purchase than any of the consoles that are available assuming you are concerning of available titles.
If we compare the PS3 vs the XBOX 360, one cannot help to see that sales numbers in the US favor the 360.
In the case of Sony, the PS3 in comparison to the lifetime sales of the PS2 for units and games has been a marketting failure.

That sort of sums it up, Are the games fun?
If we ignore pricing, it comes down to "are the games fun" which leads to which system has exclusive titles. The Wii has an entirely seperate niche market set up, while Xbox and PS3 and targeting the "hardcore" audience, at the same time there are very few EXCLUSIVE PS3 Titles being anounced.

PS3 biggest problem right now is the lack of exclusive games.
Developers are finding the console difficult to work with, and keeping exclusive titles exclusive is almost non existent.
The only main saving grace (and its biggest down fall) is that PS3 is already integrated with a Blu-ray player, which is going to hurt it as the general economy is on a down swing so most people living in the US are probably not going to have the home entertainment set up the PS3 is marketing for.
