IT ISN'T REALLY THE STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK ACCORDING TO A MEMBER THAT EMAILED ME. HERE'S THE SCOOP
"INCENSE AND PEPERMINTS" was recorded in early '67 by Thee Sixpence and had a guest
vocalist sing lead on that song. His name was Greg Munford. The song was
released a few months later in '67 under the new band's name Strawberry Alarm
Clock. In mid '67 Greg Munford was in a band(StrawberrySAC was there name)
that was managed by the same guy who managed Strawberry Alarm Clock, his name was Bill Holmes. Bill sent this band out on the road in 1968 as had them
pose as the "real" Strawberry Alarm Clock, which they weren't. The reason
for that was BH was fired by the real Strawberry Alarm Clock as manager and
he still wanted to make money off the band, so that's why he sent the fraud
band out. Anyway, StrawberrySAC recorded a lot of songs in '68 and released
a test pressing LP under there name StrawberrySAC. One of those songs
happened to be the Strawberry Alarm Clock sound a like "In Relation."
StrawberrySAC disbanded and that was the end of the story until the mid
1990's. BH took on e of those test pressing LP's and made a CD which was
released in Italy on Akarma Records under the band name Crystal Circus. That
way he wouldn't have to pay royalties to the guys who actually played on the
LP back in '68.
Bill Holmes was fired before the SAC was put together. The Oriiginal group had already disbanded. The Crystal Circus release was years later.

This band was put together by Bill holmes, the manager of the original Alarrm Clock. Musicians that were local to the Hollywood scene were put together to be the new Strawberry Alarrm Clock. These tracs were recorded at Original Sound on Sunset Blvd. The band did TV and concerts until the original Alarm Clock memers filed an injunction to have the new band stopped. Finally re-released as Crystakl Circus.

Whatever the history of this one, it's a damned fine bit of fuzz-psyche. Straight to favorites!

Fact: The CD "Garage Rock Classics", which has this song on it, has a defective copy of this song. I don't know how to describe it, but part of the organ riff at the beginning of the song (the riff goes F-Gsharp-F-Asharp-G-F-F-Gsharp-F-Asharp-G-F-E) is missing the (Gsharp-F) notes. It just goes on to (Asharp-G-F-E).
