This is what you do:

1. go to your start menu and type %appdata% in the start search bar

2. go to .minecraft open it, then go to your bin folder and delete your minecraft.jar (it may just be "minecraft")

3. place the file you downloaded in the place of your minecraft.jar and enjoy ^_^

@121miko it's notch/mojang's idea of the game, they like the way they were always updating it before and noticed how the players always looked forward to the new updates and so they decided to continue, whenever they decide to add a new feature or fix a bug of any sort then they will add all that new stuff and make a new update... therefore profit!
