After losing a bet to a confident friend, a man asks whether it's fair that he lost if the outcome was predetermined. This leads to a debate of two classic formulations of the free will versus determinism debate: (1) if God knows all that will ever happen, then is seems we could not be free, or (2) if there are laws governing the behavior of everything, it seems it must happen of necessity and there can be no choice in the matter. Either way, he doesn't want to pay up.
